As a leader in Healing Environment Planning and Design, we are deeply committed to the pursuit of thoughtful, life-enhancing design. Our staff understands the importance of the relationship between nature and well-being: Evidence-based design has shown that access to nature either by sight, sound, touch and/or smell lowers stress levels in staff, improves healthcare delivery, and improves the image of the organization in the eyes of the community. Our projects range in size from large scale, Multi-Campus Master Plans, Hospitals and Medical Office Buildings to small-scale, private spaces such as Healing Gardens, Meditation Courtyards and Rooftop Terraces.
Therapeutic and Healing Gardens
We understand that Healing Environment design applies not only to the design of Therapeutic and Healing Gardens and Areas of Respite for Visitors and Staff within the healthcare system; but also to the broader range of outdoor spaces which serve the community at large. Successful Healing Environments are outdoor spaces which accommodate a wide range of abilities while also considering specialized needs of the user group; be they physical, emotional, psychological or age-related. Incorporating barrier-free spaces with lush plantings and varied seating opportunities that address the needs of the client/user and the context of the site, in a manner which promotes the safety and health of both, is of critical importance.
Our commitment to Sustainable Design combined with our passion for Healing Environment Design can be seen in our familiarity with guidelines such as LEED for Healthcare, the Planetree philosophy, the VA’s Patient-Centered Care model and Kaiser Permanente’s Total Health Environments. Our commitment to thoughtful, life-enhancing design is demonstrated by our experience in developing projects which promote our goals of healthy people, healthy community, and healthy environment.
